Character Ideas
It can be hard coming up with a character idea to play in a universe that you don't necessarily know so well. When dealing with a theme based on a known intelectual property, like Star Trek or Star Wars, it is easier to come up with a character because there is just so much out there to draw upon.
(Un?)fortunately, this MUCK is based off its own thing, and so you can use this page to help come up with character background. You are not required to use this guide to make your character; it's a big galaxy and there's a lot of stuff in it, so really most things you come up with could probably be massaged to work here. However, as a starting off point, maybe these ideas will get the juices flowing.
Just try to not let these suggestions be a box you find yourself stuck in!
Species
You can be any mammal species you like except for human. Here's an evergrowing list of species that Jarvis uses to generate random encounters: Species List.
Birthplace
Your birthplace can help inform your background and perhaps some personality traits of your character. Or you can work backwards and choose a birthplace based on the personality you are looking for.
As always, these are just loose ideas – there are hundreds of planets, thousands if not millions of cultures. It is easy to make your own if you want, or tweak one of these ideas to fit what you would like out of your character.
Core Worlds
A person from the core worlds often simply refers to themselves as being “from the core worlds”. There is a lot of mobility between them and, as such, it isn't uncommon for someone to have lived on a couple of different ones. Especially for children of government or military parents.
The core worlds are about 20-some as-of-yet unnamed planets. Among them is the planet simply known as Prime; it was colonized during the early formation of what would later become the CSS to be the seat of government and has, in the almost 1,000 years since then, become a planet of megacities.
If you choose to make up a core world, please add it to the Wiki! See: Core Worlds
Military Brat
A military brat is a kid that grew up with military parents. If your parents were stationed in the core worlds, then your parents were either lucky or are honored soldiers that have been 'promoted' to a core worlds desk job. It's very safe and most of the time your parents have been doing office work or posing with politicians to show off their medals.
You wouldn't have grown up rich, but you would grow up comfortable and probably with a positive attitude towards the CSS and the military. It's possible you've gotten to travel a bit and are likely somewhat more open minded albiet more naive than your average citizen.
